And now, a Sparkshooter flashback . . .
Rarities and B-Sides!
As you know, I created a webcomic that’s based on my experiences with managing and being in bands. It’s called Sparkshooter, and it’s been on pause for a while for reasons I explained in an earlier Substack installment. The first sixteen chapters are parked at the comic’s Facebook page (where the link above directs you) in the Photos/Albums section.
I had a few artistic collaborators over the run of the series. Sarah Vaughn (who you might know from comics like Alex + Ada and Deadman: Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love) drew Chapters 1 and 2 (with a 2 assist from Ben Olson, artist of the companion comic, Solo Acoustic, which has it’s own FB page). Enkaru, aka Enkaru Other Worlds, drew 3-13; check out her ongoing work here. Kate Frizzell did 14 and 15 (see Kate’s work here), and Malik O. Smith did 16 (check out his Off Guard right here). Please look at their other work, as they’re all awesome.
One of the fun things that we did in the run-up to the February 29, 2012 launch of the first chapter was some promos that ran on comic news sites like Newsarama and The Beat. Sarah drew the four promos that featured the main characters in some everyday situations just prior to the start of Chapter 1. Here they are!
Sarah also did this promo image that was used in launch interviews we did with websites, the Indiana Statesman (the college paper of Indiana State University, my alma mater), and other outlets.
And here’s another pair of images. The Sondra solo pic was another promo, and the full band shot was for a time at CafePress for making coffee mugs and shirts, etc.
Not to be outdone, Enkaru did a series of promo headshots featuring all of the main characters.
Hope you enjoyed the apocrypha from amnesia lane! Sparkshooter might be my favorite thing I’ve ever written; it’s definitely personal and close to my heart. I hope you check it out, and I hope we finish it someday.

I loved Sparkshooter. That is all.
